Introductions from Leadership Team

Founder/President
Catherine Liao

My name is Catherine Liao, and I’m currently a junior at the American School in Taichung. As the founder and president of this project, I am passionate about raising awareness for oral health and helping people take better care of their smiles.
For years, I have had the privilege of working as an intern and dental assistant in several clinics, even participating in surgeries. These experiences shaped my passion for dentistry and played a key role in shaping who I am today. As a certified dental assistant, I’ve attended various classes and conferences to deepen my knowledge of oral health and learn how to best support dentists in delivering quality care.
I founded Tooth & Truth with the desire to share what I’ve learned and to educate people about the importance of oral health. Whether through social media or future community events, my goal is to spread helpful tips and raise awareness about how to maintain good dental hygiene.
During my volunteering experiences in rural areas, orphanages, psychiatric hospitals, and other underserved communities, I’ve seen firsthand how a lack of oral health education can lead to serious dental problems. Many patients do not have access to basic information on how to care for their teeth, which is a growing concern for the healthcare workers and dentists trying to help.
Through Tooth & Truth, I hope to make a difference by educating and empowering others to take control of their oral health, one smile at a time.

Co-Founder
Karen Chung
My name is Karen Chung, and I am currently a senior at the American School in Taichung. As the co-founder and vice president of Tooth & Truth, I am deeply passionate about promoting oral health and raising awareness about the importance of proper dental care.
Witnessing the significant impact that poor dental hygiene can have on overall health has inspired me to take action. Alongside the founder, Catherine Liao, we aim to empower individuals, especially in underserved communities, to take better care of their smiles and improve their quality of life. Our initiative seeks to address the critical gap in oral health education, providing knowledge and resources to those who need it most.
Although I have not worked as a dental assistant, my role in Tooth & Truth has allow me to help the team coordinate educational campaigns and organize outreach events that focus specifically on oral health.
Through our efforts, I hope to equip individuals with the information they need to maintain healthy teeth and gums, ultimately reducing the risk of long-term dental issues and associated medical conditions. I believe that with the right guidance, we can help underserved communities take control of their oral health and foster confident smiles for years to come.

US Coordinator
Serena Yeung

My name is Serena Yeung, and I am currently a junior at Westview High School. I joined Tooth & Truth as someone who is dedicated to doing my part in making a change and deeply passionate about fostering proper oral hygiene.
As the United States Coordinator, I am inspired to expand the impact of this project to the United States and create a community with those who equally share this passion. Recently, I have had the opportunity to learn from various researchers, one of which emphasized the importance of visits to the dentist and taking care of your mouth, gums, and teeth.
Learning from them was very important in developing my approach to teach others about dental care, as well as expanding my own knowledge on dentistry. The effects of neglecting proper oral hygiene is an issue that I have learned about and witnessed, which we hope to fight through promoting the importance of dental care, future events, and increasing social awareness internationally.
